Two Philadelphia-area Companies Honored with Presidential “E” Awards
Area Businesses Among Group of 65 Nationwide Companies Recognized for Export Success

WASHINGTON – U.S. Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker honored 65 U.S. companies and organizations that export goods or services during the 2014 President’s “E” Awards ceremony in Washington, D.C, on May 28th. This year marks the 52nd anniversary of the “E” Awards presentation, which is the highest recognition any U.S. entity can receive for significant contributions to increasing American exports.

“Congratulations to the “E” award recipients – these are fantastic American businesses and organizations that have played a crucial role in strengthening and growing our economy through increased U.S. exports,” said Secretary Pritzker in announcing the awards. “By selling Made-in-America goods and services internationally, U.S. business can grow faster, hire more employees, pay higher wages, and help spread American ideas, innovation and values. Last year, exports supported 11.3 million jobs, with U.S. goods and services exports reaching a record $2.3 trillion.”

The “E” Awards align with the next phase of President Obama’s National Export Initiative (NEI) – NEI/NEXT, which Secretary Pritzker announced in early May. NEI/NEXT aims to build on Administration-wide export achievements under NEI and help more American businesses reach more overseas markets to support and create millions of jobs.

The President’s “E” Awards for Exports honors companies demonstrating a sustained increase in export sales throughout several years. Two area companies; Ancillare, LP, of Horsham; and Allied Wire & Cable of Philadelphia, were among the recipients:

Ø With the help of the U.S. Commercial Service in Philadelphia, Ancillare reported an $8 million increase in exports last year. “U.S. Department of Commerce offices and embassies provided the expert advice that we required to help grow our company; expand our exports; and guarantee success,” says CEO Joanne Santomauro.

Ø The ongoing efforts of the Commercial Service also helped Allied Wire and Cable form new foreign partnerships, most recently in Canada and Turkey—resulting in a significant increase in export sales. Tim Flynn, the firm’s President and CEO, credited the Commercial Service for “making the international trade process as streamlined and painless as possible.”

The President’s “E” Award was created by President John F. Kennedy in 1961 to recognize persons, firms, and organizations that contribute to expanding U.S. exports. For more information about the “E” Awards and the benefits of exporting, visit http://www.export.gov/.
“Area exporters continue to benefit from U.S. Commercial Service trade counseling, business matchmaking, seminars, participation in trade shows, and our collaboration with state and local trade partners,” said Tony Ceballos, Director of the U.S. Commercial Service in Philadelphia. “These efforts are providing hundreds of more businesses with the necessary tools to help them navigate and pursue opportunities in the ever-changing international marketplace.”
The U.S. Commercial Service in Philadelphia is part of the global U.S. Commercial Service network of offices in 108 U.S. cities and U.S. Embassies and Consulates in more than 70 countries. For more on export assistance, visit www.export.gov/Pennsylvania.
