研究背景：In mammals, palmitoylation is catalyzed by a family of 23 enzymes called palmitoyl acyltransferases (PATs)³, whereas depalmitoylation is catalyzed by four thioesterases. Two of these thioesterases, acyl-protein thioesterase-1 (APT1) and APT2, are localized predominantly in the cytoplasm, and the other two, palmitoyl-protein thioesterase-1 (PPT1) and PPT2, are lysosomal enzymes. Acyl-protein thioesterase 2 (APT2), has been reported to depalmitoylate GAP-43 (growth-associated protein 43).
