2,2,6,6-四甲基-3,5-庚二酮(TMHD)不溶于水(0.02g/100mL),是一种高效萃取溶剂。铕和镨与TMHD形成的螯合物可用做NMR位移试剂,在GC分析试验中可分析Al,Be,Cr和稀土金属。同时,TMHD作为配体备受青睐。它与多种金属形成的金属配合物,可以用作MOCVD前驱体和均相反应的催化剂,并能有效提高苛刻条件反应(如Ullmann反应)收率。
